Economic Outlook: A Country on the Move

Are you wondering what our economy is going to look like next year and beyond? Well, you’re not the only one; everyone wants a “Heads Up” forecast so they can plan important activities and events. ISM-Memphis, Inc. and APICS-Memphis Chapter have secured the services of two of the city’s best economic experts: Mr. Brian Campbell, Senior Vice President with Fidelity Investments,  and Dr. Jeffery Wallace, Economist and Research Associate Professor at the University of Memphis. Each of these gentlemen will share with you want they see as the economic trends and impacts to the Greater Memphis area as well as the rest of the country.

Our Speakers:

Dr. Wallace is an Economist and Research Associate Professor with the Sparks Bureau of Business & Economic Research at The University of Memphis. He is a member of the National Association for Business Economics and President of the MidSouth Association for Business Economics.

Dr. Wallace specializes in economic impact studies, having most recently completed an economic impact study of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on Shelby County (2011), an economic impact study of The University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences (2011), and the economic impact of Memphis International Airport (2009).

Dr. Wallace also has substantial experience in tax revenue forecasting and government fiscal analysis, survey research and design, labor market analysis, state labor training program evaluation, and other state and local government program evaluations.

Mr. Campbell is Senior Vice President for Fidelity Financial Advisor Solutions (FFAS), a division of Fidelity Investments. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services. Mr. Campbell joined Fidelity in October of 2008. Prior to assuming his current role, he worked as vice president/asset management for JP Morgan in Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Prior to that, he worked as vice president/asset management for AXA Enterprise in Tennessee and Kentucky.

9/17/2013        We engaged Dr. Ernest. Nichols, Director of the FedEx Center for Supply Chain Management who talked with us about Supply Management at the University of Memphis


11/19/2013      We engaged Mr. John W. Simmons, Attorney at Law with Littler Mendelson, who shared with us a Lawyer’s view of contracting with suppliers.             


1/21/2014        We've engaged economic experts to speak on the national and local economics that will affect our businesses. We’ve also invited the APICS membership to join us.


3/18/2014        This is planned to be bosses night. Bring your boss to hear a local company CPO (yet to be identified) talk about buying skills of the future


5/20/2014        We’ve planned to have Mr. Madan Birla, Author/Speaker/Strategist, discuss with us what it takes to get ahead in today’s world



History of ISM Memphis: 1944 to Present
The original group of purchasing practitioners convened at some time during the early years of World War II and called themselves the Shelby County Purchasing Agents Association. Records indicate that the majority of those members were women, apparently because of the war. The first president of this group was H. R. ISM-Memphis, Inc. Offers Student Scholarships
The ISM-Memphis affiliate of the Institute for Supply Management intends to award two (2) $500.00 scholarships each year to qualified applicants. The purpose of these awards is to encourage and support outstanding academics in supply management by those students who show promise in these areas and to encourage the training of supply management professionals for eventual employment in the field and this region.
