Feburary 16 Educational Speaker Series and Member Networking Meeting

ISM: 2010 will be better than 2009, but not much

(Slowly but surely is the theme)

This Educational Speaker Series and Member Networking Meeting provided its members with a review of the recently published report, “ISM: 2010 will be better than 2009, but not much”. This semi-annual forecast from the Institute for Supply Management predicts 2010 will see continued recovery, but it will take time for the upturn to make a real impact. "Slowly but surely" continues to be the theme for the economic recovery, and will be the trend in 2010, according to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM)'s semiannual economic forecast.

SPEAKER: Dr. John E. Gnuschke is Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research and the Center for Manpower Studies and Professor of Economics at the University of Memphis. The Bureau and the Center are the applied business, economic, and labor market research divisions of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics. The divisions support the research and publication efforts of faculty members and interact with other research organizations, government agencies, and the business community. The Bureau and the Center rank among the top applied research divisions in the nation with approximately $3.25 million in research contracts and approximately 40 staff members. Toys For Tots Program

Thanks to the members of NAPM-Memphis.  As a result of your efforts, the United States Marine Corp picked up 72 toys that were contributed to the program by our members.  As a result, 72 local children will have something to open on Christmas that wouldn't have had a gift without our membership giving as they did.  This program was a success!!!!!  We owe a debt of gratitude to you for your generosity.

8th Annual NAPM-Memphis/Ronald McDonald House Golf Tournament

21 teams competed on September 14th for the 8th annual NAPM-Memphis, Inc. / Ronald McDonald House Charities golf tournament at Memphis National Golf Club.  The format was a 4-man scramble with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.  There were door, long-drive and closest to the pin prizes as well as a "shot" at $500. A buffet lunch was included in the registration fee.  Non-alcoholic drinks and breakfasts were provided by Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House of Memphis provides a home-away-from-home for children (and families) with catastrophic illnesses being treated at St Jude.  RMH receives no financial assistance from St Jude so they are totally dependent upon the donations of individuals, corporations and  fund-raisers such as this.  Because of your support and generosity, this event has delivered over $50,000 to date.

Thanks to all of the sponsors. We had a lot of fun, and only a little rain.  We're happy to report that because of your support, over $7,500 was raised this year for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Memphis.

History of NAPM Memphis: 1944 to Present
The original group of purchasing practitioners convened at some time during the early years of World War II and called themselves the Shelby County Purchasing Agents Association. Records indicate that the majority of those members were women, apparently because of the war. The first president of this group was H. R. (Pappy) Graves of the National Fireworks Company. click here for a complete timeline of the development of the NAPM Memphis affiliate
